Hi, I’m Clint, founder of C-Sure Consulting. In this week’s edition of C-Shorts, I’m reflecting on the importance of community, collaboration, and connection — from ancient Japanese philosophy to the modern challenge of cyber threats...
🪴 Ikigai: Insights and Inspiration
Last Friday, my wife and I went along to our first event at The Land in Little Eaton. It was an Introduction to ikigai workshop, and what a brilliant session it turned out to be. The group was so warm and welcoming, and it wasn’t long before we were all sharing our experiences and ideas openly, even though some of us had never met before.
Ikigai is a Japanese concept often described as your 'reason for being' — the sweet spot where what you love, what you’re good at, what the world needs, and what you can be paid for all overlap.
My ikigai was linked to helping people, solving problems, using creativity, and building connections. The workshop probably just reflected what I knew anyway, but to go through those steps and talk it through with other people was quite powerful.
They also shared the '10 rules of ikigai'; simple things like staying active, surrounding yourself with good friends, reconnecting with nature, giving thanks, and following your passions. Here is the full list for you: 1. Stay active; don’t retire
2. Take it slow
3. Don’t fill your stomach
4. Surround yourself with good friends
5. Exercise daily
6. Smile
7. Reconnect with nature
8. Give thanks
9. Live in the moment
10. Follow your ikigai
Nothing too complicated, or unexpected, but it's so easy to overlook these things in today’s fast-paced world.
🎬 Perfect Days and the Pursuit of Purpose
As part of the session, we watched the trailer for Perfect Days by Wim Wenders. Later, my wife and I watched it for ourselves and it was such a beautiful film.
On the surface, it’s about a public toilet cleaner in Tokyo, going through the same routines each day. But really, it’s about purpose, pride, and finding meaning in the smallest of moments.
For me, it tied back perfectly to ikigai.
Life isn’t about chasing more or constantly climbing; it’s about doing what matters, with presence and care. That applies as much to business as it does to life.
🗣️ Teamwork, Trust, and Turning Ideas into Action
I saw a really nice quote from Patrick Lencioni on LinkedIn a few days ago:
“Not finance. Not strategy. Not technology. It is teamwork that remains the ultimate competitive advantage, both because it is so powerful and so rare.”
I expect most companies think they have a really strong team, but a lot of them will have their weaknesses exposed once you start to dig a bit deeper... In his book The Five Dysfunctions of a Team, Lencioni puts trust right at the base of his model. Without it, he argues, teams can’t have healthy conflict, commit fully, hold each other accountable, or focus on results. Trust is what allows people to admit mistakes, share concerns, and lean on each other — and without that foundation, everything else quickly unravels.
At The Land event, the openness of the group created a safe space where strangers quickly felt more like a community, proof that trust grows fastest when people feel safe to share.
The same applies in business: collaboration only happens when people feel safe enough to open up, share ideas, and challenge one another honestly.
I think that’s something we often forget about... Processes and tools can only take you so far, but it’s teamwork that really makes things happen. When you share ideas, build trust, and pull together, you can achieve far more than you ever could on your own.
That’s the real power of people...
🔐 Cyber Security, Collaboration, and Collective Strength
That’s why I’ve really enjoyed collaborating with RS22 Cyber Security It's been so valuable to get their expert input while I’ve been developing our Cyber Attack Simulation.
We had a really productive and positive face-to-face meeting earlier today, and it was great to spend time chatting and getting to know Bec and Oliver better. There’s something about meeting up in person rather than on Teams that makes the connection stronger; a good reminder of how important human interaction really is. I’m looking forward to meeting up with the team again soon...
Next Friday, 12th September, I’ll be joining RS22 on their stand at the Midlands Business Network Expo at the National Motorcycle Museum in Birmingham, where we’ll be showcasing the simulation. If you’re planning to come along, then please stop by and give our Cyber Attack simulation a go, we’ll be on the RS22 stand.
And cyber security really isn’t something any of us can ignore... Just this week, teenagers who identified themselves as the 'M&S hackers' also claimed to be the ones behind the Jaguar Land Rover attack. They reportedly gained access to internal systems and disrupted operations. This latest incident serves as yet another powerful reminder of how important awareness and training are in this area. That’s exactly why we’re building our simulation tool: to give teams the chance to experience these scenarios safely, to learn together, and to strengthen their collective response.
