From Budgeting Time to Being Together – And Why Family Comes First

Family of four in winter coats and hats, holding hands, walking in snowy landscape at sunset. Snowflakes fall; a warm, serene scene.

Hi, I’m Clint, part-time present purchaser, party planner, and full-time family man. This week’s edition of C-Shorts will be my last one of 2025, as I’m taking a bit of time out to enjoy the festive period with family and friends... It’s been another full-on year, with plenty of ups and downs, and now feels like a good time to stop and let it all soak in. There’s a lot to look forward to, but right now it feels more important to press pause and simply enjoy the moment. Christmas will be a bit different for us this year as we finally had that conversation with our eldest...

🎅 A Coming of Age Conversation He’s at secondary school now, so we knew it was probably coming. We even thought about bringing it up ourselves to get ahead of it but couldn't find the right time. In the end it just happened naturally, came from him, and actually went a lot better than I expected.

He was understandably a bit disappointed to find out the truth, but he was also very calm and thoughtful about it. This reminded us how much he has matured over the last year or so, and even though we'd been dreading it coming up, that actually made it an incredibly proud moment. Our first little boy just keeps on growing up.

He agreed to keep the magic alive for his younger brother, and he's kept his promise so far. Although I'll feel a lot better once Christmas Day has been and gone and Father Christmas has delivered his presents, after eating the mince pie and drinking the beer we've left out for him.

🎄 Seasonal Slowdown

I’ll be taking a short break from blog writing and consulting work now to spend some quality time with the family.

I could easily keep myself busy with important work, but I know I can't take these moments for granted. Our two boys are growing, changing, and surprising us in new ways all the time. And while sometimes the days can feel very long, the years seem to be moving on faster and faster the older we all get.

I’ll still be contactable if you need me, but I won’t be taking on any new projects until the new year.

🤝 Let’s Keep Connected This one's a little different from my usual blog posts, and without the usual supply chain insights and advice. The one takeaway I'll try to leave you with is a reminder to notice what you already have, be grateful and be generous with your time to those special people in your life.

And whatever the coming days look like for you, whether you’re celebrating or simply taking a breather at the end of the year, I hope you find some time for the things that matter most to you. Until next time...
