From Cyber Simulations to Greek Getaways — And Why Collaboration Is the Key to Success

Hi, I’m Clint, founder of C-Sure Consulting. In this week’s edition of C-Shorts, we’re diving deep into cyber threats, exploring tariff troubles in Greece, and making a strong case for collaboration across every corner of your business...

🎭 Combining Creativity & Cyber Challenges

This past week, I've continued my work developing our new Cyber Attack Simulation tool. It’s a fascinating combination of creative storytelling, coding, and visual design, and I must admit I’m thoroughly enjoying the process! Creating fictional characters like our CFO, Chase Billings (see what I did there? 😉), has kept me going through the more tedious parts — like complex branching pathways!!

While I’ve done some relevant training through APICS on Supply Chain Resilience, I’m not a cybersecurity expert. But as a consultant, I feel a strong responsibility to raise awareness of these risks across my network. Businesses simply must understand and act on these threats. 📺 Panorama’s Powerful Cyber Warning

Speaking of awareness, I recently caught up on a compelling BBC Panorama episode, Fighting Cyber Criminals, which first aired a couple of weeks ago. It provided a stark insight into the rapidly escalating world of cyber threats.

The episode revisited several high-profile attacks, some of which I've highlighted previously in this blog series. They include the devastating ransomware hits on iconic businesses like Marks & Spencer, an attack their IT team described as "an out-of-body experience" with recovery expected to last months and cost hundreds of millions, The Co-op, which acted swiftly to contain their breach, and logistics firm Knights of Old, whose 158-year heritage sadly ended due to one single weak password.

Perhaps most frightening was the attack on Staffordshire Water, where hackers briefly gained control of chemical dosing processes, risking public safety. The message couldn't be clearer: cyber threats aren't just business risks; they can affect anyone and everyone. With projections indicating 2025 could be the worst year ever for ransomware attacks in the UK, now is the time for every business to bolster their resilience. 👉 Watch the BBC Panorama episode – Fighting Cyber Criminals

💍 Pandora’s Box — Retail Cyber Risk Continues

Adding to the long list of affected companies, earlier this week, premium jewellery company Pandora confirmed that customer information had been compromised through a third-party platform. Pandora reassured customers that only common details like names, emails, and birthdays were exposed, but it still highlights a serious and ongoing vulnerability.

This follows recent attacks on other UK retail giants, including Harrods, M&S, and The Co-op. It’s yet another wake-up call to prioritise digital security across your supply chain.

🏖️ Looking Forward to a Greek Getaway

In lighter news, it’s week two of the summer holidays, and we’ve been making sure to keep it family-focused. Later this week, we're heading out for a much-awaited family holiday to Greece.

Greece holds a special place in our hearts: beautiful beaches, crystal-clear water, friendly people and, of course, the incredible food! It's always a win when we can find somewhere our two boys will eat something from the menu, and they both enjoy Greek food, which is great because it is generally healthy as well as delicious! So, with Storm Floris behind us and now the threat of Storm Dexter on its way, we're ready for sunshine, relaxation, and plenty of family time.

And speaking of Greece...

🥗 Trump’s Tariffs & Greek Gastronomy

Trump's trade policies are back in the headlines... Greece is currently pushing for exemptions from Trump’s tariffs for several key exports following the EU-US trade agreement. These goods include some of Greece’s most important exports: olive oil, feta cheese, and Greek yoghurt.

For context, the tariffs originally imposed by Trump have hit Greek producers hard, significantly raising the cost of exporting these essential products to major markets like the United States. Olive oil, feta, and yoghurt represent not just key economic drivers for Greece but also integral parts of its cultural identity and international reputation for quality.

An emerging alternative market is Australia, where demand for these traditional Greek staples is rising. However, even there, the impacts of tariffs mean uncertainty and increased complexity in supply chains. As Greek producers fight for tariff exemptions, this story serves as a powerful reminder that international trade politics significantly affect everyday businesses and consumers. 🛃 Tackling Tariff Troubles

Understanding tariffs and planning strategically around them is essential to maintain a competitive advantage. So, how can your business manage tariff risks effectively?

  • Map Your Risk Identify products that may attract tariffs and calculate the financial impact

  • Diversify Your Sources Build relationships in tariff-free zones

  • Train Cross-Functionally Make sure your whole team understands how tariffs affect them

  • Plan Proactively Include tariff mitigation in strategic planning, not just procurement

🧩 Collaboration is Key

The common thread between cyber resilience and tariff mitigation is clear: success hinges on proactive collaboration and communication across all areas of your business.

From experience, I’ve seen too many organisations suffer from siloed approaches. Sales doesn’t always talk to finance, logistics doesn't always communicate clearly with purchasing, and so on. Working in silos leaves organisations vulnerable.

At C-Sure Consulting, we think of Integrated Business Planning (IBP) as the gold standard. IBP aligns your teams around common goals, ensuring shared visibility of risks, opportunities, and strategic actions. When properly implemented, IBP can transform how your organisation manages uncertainty, builds resilience, and grows sustainably.

No matter how brilliant your technology, human collaboration is the foundation for lasting resilience and success.

🤝 Let’s Keep Connected

As you can probably tell, collaboration is a topic I'm passionate about. When businesses integrate fully and transparently, there’s very little they can’t handle. And that’s where C-Sure Consulting comes in. Whether it's IBP, supply chain mapping, or cyber resilience, our goal is to help you strengthen your defences and capitalise on your opportunities.

Thanks for reading! I'd love to hear your thoughts or experiences with cyber threats, tariffs, or IBP. Please comment below or contact us directly. Until next time...
